Wii Shop Channel to End January 2019

by Tawny

It looks like the Wii era is coming to an end. It has been recently confirmed that the Wii Shopping Channel will be terminated on January 31st, 2019.

Due to this, WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console games will be unavailable for purchase both on the Wii and the Wii U.

The purchase of Wii Points is also set to end on March 27th, 2018. However, there will be a program to refund unused Wii Points. The ability to move points from Wii Shop channel to the Wii section on the Wii U will continue for the time being, but this is also planned to end.

But players will be able to play WiiWare and Wii Virtual Console games as long as they aren’t erased from the main unit. You can check out more information on Nintendo’s Japanese site here.
