In the most recent Nintendo Direct on March 8, 2018, a large update was promised for Splatoon 2 called version 3.0. The update will finally go live tonight at 6PM PT; 9PM ET. The update will add new features, several pieces of gear, gameplay balances, and bug fixes.

As mentioned in the Nintendo Direct, there be a new X Rank for experienced players. S+10 ranked players will be promoted to X Rank. Also, every month, the top 500 players will be listed on the SpatNet 2 app.
After fulfilling a certain condition, Callie will now appear in the Octo Canyon at Tentakeel Outpost alongside Marie. When speaking with her, she will detail your multiplayer stats.

As for the gear, over 100 pieces of equipment will be added, some of which are returning from the first Splatoon title.
Camp Triggerfish returns.
In addition to the 3.0 update, Camp Triggerfish will make a return from the first Splatoon. The entire stage is a wooden platform in the middle of water. As a match on this stage nears its end, new pathways will open allowing for a sudden shift in the battle.
