The September 4th, 2019 Nintendo Direct presentation gave us a closer look at Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield, including two new Pokémon and customization options.
Polteageist and Cramorant
Polteageist and Cramorant are the latest Pokémon to join the series in Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield. Polteageist is a ghost-type with the ability Weak Armor. Its body is made entirely of black tea and it disguises itself by hiding inside of tableware. Cramorant is a flying/water-type with the ability Gulp Missle. Gulp Missle is a new ability that is currently exclusive to Cramorant. When it uses the moves Surf or Dive, it will return to the player with a fish in its mouth. If it takes damage in this state, Cramorant will retaliate by spitting the fish at its attacker.
Character Customization
As you travel across the Galar region, you can visit boutiques and hair salons to treat yourself to some new clothing, hairstyles, and makeup options. Unlike past games, there are significantly more aspects of your look you can customize. Outerwear like tops, pants, gloves, socks, and shoes are just a few parts of your outfit you can customize. There are a myriad of hairstyles, lipstick colors, and eyelash types to choose from as well. This is definitely a step up from the trainer customization in X and Y and Sun/Moon/Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon.
Pokémon Camp
Pokémon Camp is a new feature coming to the game where you can play with your Pokémon, cook curry dishes, and join other player’s camps (as well as host your own). When you cook curry dishes, you can incorporate many different flavors by adding berries and other ingredients to the mix. There are plenty of dishes to create, so try to cook them all and complete the Curry Dex.
League Cards
Another customizable feature coming to Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield is the ability to create League Cards. Similar to trainer cards in past games, these cards provide detailed information about the trainer and are given out across the region. You can change the background and frame of your card, as well as your trainer’s expression, pose, and more.
