Arms Update Released, Includes Badge System and New Hidden Boss

by Tawny

Ready, set, ARMS! Arms, for the Nintendo Switch, recently released its latest update, Ver. 3.2. This new update features a host of balance changes, a “recent replays” feature, a new badge system, and a hidden, final boss that can only be unlocked by meeting certain standards in the game’s Grand Prix mode.

Major balance changes include buffing Lola Pop and Byte & Barq, as well as a handful of ARMS such as the Megawatt, Biffler, and more. Max Brass was unfortunately nerfed again, decreasing the expansion rate of attacks when he uses his “buffed up” ability, as well as increasing distance from which he can approach his opponents. You can check out the official patch notes here.

The update also includes a “recent replays” feature where players can view past matches. However, replay data is automatically deleted when necessary, starting with the oldest data. And future Arms updates will delete replay data from previous versions.

Arms also received a badge system new to the game. Players can earn badges by completing various tasks or challenges throughout the game, giving them badges to display as well as gold to use for the ARM Getter. I earned roughly 1,200 gold from checking out the badges I had earned before the update came out. So make sure to check it out and cash in any gold you have waiting for you.

A closer look at the badges I have earned up-to-date.There are some badges whose designs are random while others are fixed. For example, the badge you earn for participating in a Grand Prix features Max Brass, while the badges for playing a game of volleyball has a random design. I have no idea why it’s random for each individual player… It’s interesting.

But lastly, an unexpected addition to the game: a hidden, final boss known as “Springtron” has entered the ring. Springtron appears to be a mecha version of Spring Man, the face of the game. He can only be fought after completing a level 4 or higher Grand Prix while not losing any rounds in any matches. From what we have seen so far, his special ability includes a blue shockwave that disables ARMS if players punch it or are in range of it. It supposedly has a large range that, according to Reddit user ProfLexicovermis, it covered nearly half of Cinema Deux.

So, needless to say, Springtron sounds like a formidable opponent who seems far too broken to be considered playable. But shrink that ability’s range and he’s solid. Perhaps he will become a playable character someday, or maybe inspire a new mode in Party Match.

What are your thoughts on the latest Arms update? Have you fought Springtron yet? Feel free to share in the comments below, we’d love to hear.
