Originally, Nintendo had stated that there will be six playable DLC fighters coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch system. This included Piranha Plant from the Super Mario franchise, a bonus fighter for early adopters of the game, and five characters included with the Fighters Pass. Joker from Persona 5, Hero from Dragon Quest, Banjo-Kazooie from Banjo-Kazooie, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury, and one character yet to be announced.
However, Nintendo revealed in their most recent Nintendo Direct presentation that additional DLC fighters are being developed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. These characters will be separate from those in the Fighters Pass. There is also no confirmation on the number of upcoming fighters.
