Why Nintendo Removed Reviews from Switch’s E-Shop

by Tawny

According to multiple media outlets, Nintendo reportedly removed customer reviews from the Nintendo Switch E-Shop. The feature was available for only a couple of days before being removed from the website.

The customer review status on Nintendo’s website states: “Customer reviews have been taken offline as we evaluate this feature and its functionality. We currently have no estimated date on when an update will be provided.” While some Nintendo fans are concerned about the feature’s removal, others believe Nintendo is testing the waters with it. The latter was eventually confirmed. As stated in a recent update from Polygon, Nintendo’s reply assured that the review system was a trial before it was removed for adjustments.

“Nintendo.com recently offered a trial customer review feature to let users share feedback about Nintendo Switch games on our website. The response has been positive, and Nintendo appreciates the time and effort that reviewers put into their thoughtful commentary on the games. Nintendo has removed this feature as we evaluate the future of the ratings functionality on Nintendo.com. We have no estimate on when an update will be provided on the status of this initiative, but we appreciate the enthusiasm shown for the trial.”

With that response, it is likely that Nintendo’s website will fully establish a customer review system in the future, as the recent system was simply a trial. Though there is “no estimate on when an update will be provided,” I highly doubt that it will be gone for forever.
