New Pokemon Game Announced for the Switch

by Tawny

This is the news we’ve all been waiting for. After roughly two weeks of leaks and rumors, Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! have been officially announced at the Official Pokémon YouTube Channel.

Both Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! are heavily inspired by Pokémon: Yellow, including the starter Pokémon and its setting in the Kanto region. Players will return to Pallett Town with either Pikachu or Eevee depending on the chosen game before starting their journey together. (And they will resist their poké ball, exploring the region by your side. Talk about nostalgia.)

The games contain elements from Pokémon Go, replacing traditional pokémon-capturing mechanics with the same swipe motion in the mobile game. However, players can physically “throw” the Poké Ball with their Joy-Con, immersing themselves in the Pokémon world even further. The video shows that players will also be able to play local co-op, as only one Joy-Con is needed for gameplay, and capture pokémon together. Additionally, more traditional battle mechanics will be returning, such as trainers and gym leaders, and the storyline will be similar to past games, so it won’t be an entirely new Pokémon game. But Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! will release on November 16th, 2018. You can check out more details in the official trailer below.

Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! are not the traditional Pokémon role-play games many fans have been anticipating for the Nintendo Switch, but with a core series game coming to the Switch in 2019, the two games will undoubtedly provide an enjoyable experience for Pokémon and Pokémon Go fans.

What are your thoughts on Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!? Will you be picking up these new Pokémon games? What is your favorite part of the trailer? Feel free to share with us in the comments below.
