New Reveals for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has confirmed a crossover with the Castlevania series. Two new characters join the fight! Simon Belmont lashes out with his holy whip, axe, cross, and holy water to rid all stages of dangerous nocturnal creatures. His final smash? The Grand Cross will lock his opponent into a coffin and obliterate them. Alongside him as an echo fighter is Richter Belmont who varies only in appearance.

Dracula’s Castle was announced as a new battle stage.

  • Striking the candle sticks will procure a random item.
  • Varying bosses from the Castlevania universe will appear on the stage to replicate the old-school terror, including Dracula himself.
  • This stage includes 34 music tracks both old and new.
  • Alucard, Dracula’s son, appears as an assist trophy.

Two new Echo Fighters join the fight!

  • Chrom as Lucina’s echo from the Fire Emblem series
  • Dark Samus as Samus’ echo from the Metroid series
  • All Echo Fighters in the fighter display menu can either be displayed as their own icon or have them stacked on the character they echo. How they stack can be changed with a press of a button.

Masahiro Sakurai graces us with more stage reveals!

  • New Donk City Hall from Mario Odyssey was revealed with Pauline guest singing.
  • Final Destination has been revamped for Ultimate’s roster.
  • Past stage favorites making a comeback: Pokemon Stadium, Garden of Hope, Brinstar Depths, Summit, Unova Pokemon League, Magicant, and Gamer.
  • All stages have been graphically enhanced and those from the N64 installation have been aesthetically designed to hold true to the old style of graphics. This brings the total amount of stages to 103!
  • All stages are available for 8 player smash and all stages will be available from the beginning.
  • You can now select 2 stages that will morph back and forth from one another within a battle!

Ultimate’s soundtrack is the most ambitious in the series!

  • You are once again able to select what music you would like to play on a stage and now those stages belonging to the same franchise are able to share all their music instead of having certain tracks assigned to specific stages.
  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate includes 800 stage tracks and roughly 900 tracks overall. This equates to a little over 28 hours of music.
  • You can create your own playlists with all of the available tracks which can be listened to on the go in handheld mode. Simply plug in your headphones. The music will continue to play even with the screen off.

-New rules and modes are available!

  • When selecting the rules during battle set-up, you can create and save your own ruleset for future use and quick access.
  • Stamina Battle is now a standard battle option.
  • In Sudden Death mode, you will still face off with 300% damage but as the battle continues the camera will slowly zoom in to increase the intensity of the battle.
  • The Final Smash Meter, a gauge that allows you to see when you have maxed out and are able to utilize a less-powerful Final Smash Attack, can be voluntarily turned on or off. This attack does not require a Smash Ball and no 2 final smashes will occur simultaneously.

New Battle Modes to try out! 

  • Squad Strike is a 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 elimination style battle. You can play all 3 or 5 characters on your own or have a group of friends take turns with each character.
  • Tourney mode is back! Just enter in your roster of players and the amount of CPU participants and it will automatically generate a tournament bracket. Up to 32 players can play in a tournament.
  • Smashdown mode will eliminate players that had already been picked in the previous battle. Players that can main multiple characters will have an advantage in this mode.
  • Training mode has an exclusive grid-designed stage that will help players to measure their attack power and distance based on a characters weight and damage count.
  • Classic Mode is back again! Venture within the single player mode where you engage in battle with a series of fighters. Each character has a set selection of fighters and stages that they will encounter.

New items to the Smash series!

  • Banana Gun: it looks like a banana and shoots like a gun.
  • Killing Edge: a blade that when glowing, its power intensifies.
  • Bomber: a walking detonator that when  lifted up, will explode without hurting its user.
  • Death’s Scythe: instantly KO’s fighters who are badly damaged.
  • Staff: Its power increases the farther you are from your target.
  • Ramblin’ Evil Mushroom: reverses the opponents’ controls.
  • Rage Blaster: a gun that becomes stronger the higher your damage percentage grows.

New Pokemon in the Smash series!

  • Alolan Exeggutor: they are climbable but not surmountable.
  • Abra: they will grab opponents and throw them into dark portals.
  • Solgaleo: it will envelope itself in flame and fire an inferno blast at opponents.
  • Lunala: will fly above and shoot a powerful beam down onto the stage.
  • Mimikyu: will drag an opponent into its disguise and deal dark damage upon them.
  • Pyukumuku: will lash out at any opponent that draws near.
  • Vulpix: will inflict fire damage.
  • Alolan Vulpix: will inflict ice damage.
  • Marshadow: will perform a swift dark punch to an opponent.
  • Ditto: will take on the form of its releaser and attack opponents as the clone.

New Assist Trophies Revealed!

  • Zero from MegaMan
  • Knuckles from Sonic
  • Krystal from Star Fox
  • Klaptrap from Donkey Kong
  • Kapp’n from Animal Crossing
  • Chef Kawasaki from Kirby
  • Gray Fox from Metal Gear
  • Nikki from Swapnote
  • Shovel Knight from Shovel Knight
  • The Moon from Majora’s Mask
  • Rathalos from Monster Hunter

Eluded to a secret on the Main Menu??? Masahiro Sakurai teases us with a blurred out icon on the main screen. This secret is promised to be announced soon.

Another fighter climbs aboard! King K. Rool was announced as a new fighter from the Donkey Kong series. There was no verbal breakdown of his move-set. From what can be gleaned from the trailer is that he can:

  • Shoot cannon balls
  • Perform a belly slam
  • Fly around with a propeller
  • Grab an opponent and slam them upward
  • Counter attack with his gold belly
  • Punch out enemies with a boxing glove
  • Toss his crown and have it return like a boomerang
  • His final smash is him sitting in his iconic tower and firing an all-powerful blast from his cannon gun
