Ken Confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

by Garrett Boyle

Ken of Street Fighter fame was the first character confirmed in today’s Nintendo Direct covering Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. As they do in the Street Fighter series, Ken’s moves closely resemble Ryu’s, and appropriately he is an Echo Fighter. In Ultimate, Ken is based on his appearance in Super Street Fighter II Turbo.

HadoKEN.
  • Ken generally moves faster than Ryu.
  • Ken’s neutral special is the Hadoken, though it appears slightly different from Ryu’s.
  • His upward special, the Shoryuken, has a fire effect that seems to last after impact.
  • Unlike Ryu’s Tatsumaki, Ken’s side special, the Tatsumaki Senpukyaku, hits multiple times.
  • Ken’s downward special is still Focus; it is not clear if this counter is any different from Ryu’s.
  • He uses Hell Wheel when activating a backward throw.
  • Ken has two Final Smash attacks. At a distance, he uses a spinning uppercut called Shinryuken. Shippu Jinraikyaku is used when activating a Final Smash near an opponent.
“This is my original move, Tatsumaki Senpukyaku. Do not steal.”

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate releases for the Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018.
