The Nintendo Switch broke two records recently: not only did it break Nintendo console sales records, but more than half of Switch owners have Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, or Super Mario Odyssey.

Super Mario Odyssey has sold over 10 million copies.

The Switch proved itself Nintendo’s best-selling console for the Thanksgiving weekend. Statistics from Adobe Analytics claim that the Nintendo Switch also topped sales for video game products in general. Customers spent over $250 million on Nintendo products from Black Friday through Cyber Monday this year.

In an interview with IGN, COO Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed the success of Nintendo’s first party titles like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Super Mario Odyssey, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. More than half of all Switch owners, he said, own at least one if not more of these games.

Nintendo COO Reggie Fils-Aime is ready for a strong 2019 for the Nintendo Switch.

“For everyone who owns a system,” says Fils-Aime, “more than one out of every two have bought Zelda, more than one out of every two have bought Kart, more than one out of every two have bought Odyssey. That’s never happened in U.S. video game history.”

While sales stumbled with the last console generation, Fils-Aime says that the Switch has outsold both the GameCube and the Wii U. New things coming for Nintendo Labo and Smash Ultimate‘s recent release promise a strong 2019 for the latest Nintendo console.

Nintendo has reported over 8 million sales for Breath of the Wild on the Switch.

Sales for recent Switch titles guarantee a strong finish for Nintendo this year. Smash Ultimate established itself as the most pre-ordered of the Smash series, with estimates passing 1 million units just for sales in Japan. In addition, November’s launches of Pokemon: Let’s Go games and Super Mario Party each reached similar sales.

Nintendo’s first party franchises have always been successful, but how does your game collection compare? Are you one of those 50% that own Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8, or Super Mario Odyssey? If not, what essential games are in your Switch collection?
