You’ve heard of Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves, but the latest battle mechanic is a colossal component of Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield.
According to the latest Pokémon Direct, Dynamax is a phenomenon found in particular areas of the Galar region. Pokémon from the Galar region are capable of Dynamaxing, which powers them up with Max Moves. Max Moves are special, powerful moves that may be able to trigger extra effects. For example, the normal-type Max Move known as Max Strike lowers the speed stats of the opponent it hits.
On top of Max Moves, players can participate in Max Raid Battles against wild Dynamax Pokémon. You can team up with three other trainers to battle and capture it. While only one trainer in a Max Raid Battle can Dynamax their Pokémon (only once per battle), teamwork is key in defeating the wild Dynamax Pokémon.
Some Pokémon only show up after defeating their Dynamax form in a Max Raid Battle, so it’s crucial to connect with friends if you want to complete your Pokédex.
