Revealed in the latest Pokémon Direct, of the many new aspects of Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield is its open-world layout.

This concept, similar to the one found in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!, allows trainers to explore the Galar region and find Pokémon out in the open.

The Wild Area can be reached through many different towns and cities in the game. A variety of Pokémon will appear in the Wild Area depending on the location and weather, so each visit to the Wild Area is a unique experience.

Additionally, players can control the camera in order to view the vast space around their character and search for Pokémon and items. This feature wasn’t included in Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go Eevee!, making it an optimal open-world experience.

An open-world Pokémon game has been anticipated by fans for years. It’ll be neat to see how this concept, that’s new to the series, will play out in Pokémon: Sword and Pokémon: Shield.
