Readers of the Japanese magazine Nintendo DREAM were recently asked to vote for their favorite Nintendo characters. The magazine’s August 2019 poll reveals the top 10 characters loved by Nintendo fans in Japan.

- Kirby (Kirby) – 329pt
- Mario (Super Mario) – 120 pt
- Link (The Legend of Zelda) – 106 pt
- Pikachu (Pokémon)
- Isabelle (Animal Crossing)
- Waddle Dee (Kirby)
- Meta Knight (Kirby)
- Yoshi (Super Mario)
- Luigi (Super Mario)
- Sans (Undertale)
The poll’s point system revealed the point results for the top three winners. Kirby won by a landslide, which is to be expected – In Japan, Kirby is significantly more popular than Mario, the face of the company. Kirby’s adorable design, as well as the myriad of Kirby-inspired merchandise, make him a fan favorite.
