Switch 5.0.0 Update Available Now

The most recent firmware update for the Nintendo Switch has just dropped. It introduces some new functionality to the system. The changes featured in this update are as follows.

  • Adds Friend Suggestions for Switch friends when linking your Facebook and Twitter accounts to your system
  • Expands Parental Controls app functionality
    • Allows for whitelisting of specific titles to exclude them from Restricted Software
    • Video capture can be disabled for Restricted Software
    • Makes Parental Controls PIN input private by allowing the passcode to be entered with simple control stick and button commands rather than through an on-screen input
  • Adds 24 new icons for Switch user profiles, featuring ARMS and the Kirby series
  • Can now purchase digital items for the Switch from a computer or smart devices; Items will begin downloading to the system, even in its rest mode.
  • Notifications will pop-up when pre-loaded software becomes available
  • Can now filter news to view only unread messages
  • Pro Controller icons on the Controller menu will now reflect the color of the controller’s grips

Additionally, the bug that caused playtimes of different titles to be inaccurately calculated seems to have been fixed.

There is also an update for the Joy-Con which can be accessed in the System Settings under Controllers and Sensors.
